It is likely that quantum computing may be helpful in DNA sequencing, where making comparisons with the database is computationally heavy. However, there are several possible steps in the pipeline. The question is where to focus for maximum effect:
- Multiple sequence alignment
- Burrows-Wheeler transform
- K-mer matching
- SNP calling
The first step will be to use machine learning to speed up the process.
